Terms of service

Agreement

These terms are between you and Mobile Tech Media, LLC, a Wyoming, USA limited liability company, and they govern your use of CaptionPipe: the API, the dashboard at https://app.captionpipe.com, and this website. By creating an account or making a request to the API you agree to them. If you are using CaptionPipe for a company, you confirm that you can bind that company, and "you" means the company.

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher.

What the service does

You give us a video, by upload or by a direct link to the file. We transcribe the speech in it, burn the words into a copy of the video in one of three fixed styles, and return that copy together with subtitle files and per-word timings. If a word is wrong you can send corrected words and we burn the video again, a fixed number of times, for free, within a fixed window.

Speech recognition is automatic and it makes mistakes, more so with unusual names, heavy accents, music and crosstalk. The dictionary and the re-render exist for exactly that reason. It is your job to check the output before you publish it.

The service is built to be called by software: AI agents connected over MCP, workflow tools such as n8n, Make and Zapier, and your own code over REST. Anything done with your API key or by an agent authorized through your account is done by you.

Your account and credentials

You need an account with a verified email address. Keep your API keys secret; anyone holding one can spend your minutes. A key is shown once when it is created and cannot be recovered afterwards, only replaced. If you think a key has leaked, revoke it in the dashboard immediately. We are not responsible for minutes spent with a key you failed to protect.

One person, one account. Do not create accounts to claim the trial more than once. We may close accounts created for that purpose and the trial minutes with them.

The free trial

Every verified email address gets 5 free minutes, once. Trial jobs are limited to videos of 3 minutes, 1 job at a time and 1 re-render per job. Trial minutes are not refundable, not transferable and have no cash value. They are drawn down before any paid minutes, and a single job may use the last of your trial minutes and some paid ones.

Buying minutes

The only thing for sale is a block of 250 minutes for $10, paid through Stripe. You can buy between 1 and 10 blocks in one payment. Minutes are credited to your account when Stripe confirms the payment to us, which is usually seconds after checkout.

• There is no subscription. Nothing renews and nothing refills on its own.
• Paid minutes never expire. There is no dormancy rule and no inactivity fee.
• Minutes belong to the account that bought them and cannot be moved to another account.
• Prices are in US dollars. Where we are required to collect sales tax or VAT, it appears at checkout.
• We may change the price of a block. A change never affects minutes you have already bought.

How you are charged

A job is charged by the whole second of the video's duration, rounded up. When a job starts we first measure the video, then place a hold on your balance for that many seconds. The hold is visible in the dashboard as reserved. When the job completes, the hold becomes the charge, which is never more than the hold. When a job fails for any reason, the hold is returned in full and nothing is charged.

If your balance cannot cover the whole video, the job is refused after the file has been checked and before any transcription, and nothing is charged. Re-renders within the allowance are free and never touch your balance.

A job that completes is charged even if you do not download the files, and even if you later decide you do not like the result. Speech recognition errors are corrected with the re-render, not with a refund.

Refunds

Unused paid minutes are refundable on request, at any time. Because your balance is a ledger, the unused amount is an exact number: your remaining paid seconds divided by 15,000 times $10. From that we subtract the payment processing fee Stripe charged on the original payment, which Stripe does not return to us, so we cannot return it to you. The result is refunded to the payment method you used.

We cannot refund while a job of yours is still running, because the hold has not settled yet. Ask again when it has finished. Trial minutes were never paid for and are not refundable. Minutes already used are not refundable.

If you are a consumer in the EU, EEA or UK

You normally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase of a digital service. Because we refund unused minutes at any time on the terms above, you lose nothing by that right being exercised in the same way. Minutes you have already used within those 14 days were a service you asked us to begin immediately, and are not refundable.

Your videos

Your video stays yours, and so does everything we make from it. You give us only the permission needed to fetch or receive it, transcribe it, burn captions into a copy, store the results for the retention period, and hand them back to you. We do not publish your videos, we do not use them to train models, and we do not look at them except to help you with a job you have asked about or to investigate suspected abuse.

The captioned video, the subtitle files and the word timings are available for 24 hours after the job finishes and are then deleted. Download what you need within that window. We do not keep a copy for you.

You must have the right to send us every video you send. That means you own it, or you have permission from whoever does, including the people who appear and speak in it. If someone claims otherwise, that is between you and them, and you will cover us for it.

Acceptable use

Do not:

• Send us video you do not have the right to send, or that infringes anyone's rights.
• Send us anything unlawful, or any sexual content involving minors, which we will report.
• Point us at pages that are not video files. Platform page links such as YouTube or TikTok are refused, and using the service to extract video from platforms in breach of their terms is not allowed.
• Try to defeat the limits, the balance checks, the trial rules or the rate limits.
• Probe, scan or attack our infrastructure, or use the URL fetcher to reach anything other than a public video file.
• Resell the service under your own name without an agreement with us. Building a product that uses the API is fine, and you are responsible for your users' use of it.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. Unused paid minutes are still refunded under the refund terms.

Limits

The service takes videos of up to 30 minutes and 2 GB, in portrait or 16:9 landscape, one video per call, and returns output at up to 1080p. Paid accounts run 3 jobs at a time and get 3 free re-renders per job within 24 hours. Every limit is checked before you are charged, so a video we cannot take costs you nothing. The current limits are published on the docs page and may change; a change never affects a job already accepted.

Availability and support

We will try to keep the service running, and we do not promise that it always will be. When our speech vendors are unavailable, jobs are refused with a clear error and nothing is charged. We may change features, add limits or withdraw the service. If we withdraw it entirely we will give you notice and refund your unused paid minutes in full, fee included.

Support is by email at [email protected]. The error messages the API returns are written to be the first line of support; most problems are answered by the message itself.

Third parties

We rely on infrastructure, speech recognition (with a fallback for when it is unavailable), sign-in and payment providers to run CaptionPipe. Our privacy policy names each one and what they receive. The tools you connect to us, such as Claude, Cursor, n8n, Make or Zapier, are governed by their own terms and are not our responsibility.

Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided as it is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we do not warrant that transcription will be accurate.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim connected with the service is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or 50 US dollars. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost revenue from a video you published with a wrong word in it.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep every right your local law gives you.

Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time by asking us to delete your account; unused paid minutes are refunded first, under the refund terms. We can suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if we must for legal or security reasons, or if we withdraw the service. If we end it for a reason that is not your breach, we refund your unused paid minutes in full.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, and the courts there have jurisdiction over disputes.

If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings there.

Changes, and contact

If we change these terms we will update the date at the top, and we will email the address on your account before a material change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
